Does OpenPhone Have an AI Receptionist? Yes, Sona, 10 Free Calls a Month, Then From $25

By Sharrk Team · November 1, 2026

Disclosure: we make Sharrk, an AI receptionist that competes with Quo's. Every Quo detail below comes from Quo's own pages, checked November 1, 2026.

Yes. OpenPhone, which rebranded as Quo in September 2025, has an AI receptionist called Sona: every Quo workspace gets about 10 Sona calls a month free, and paid Sona tiers start at $25 a month for about 40 calls. Sona answers calls 24/7, answers questions from your business details, takes messages, transfers callers to a teammate and can text a scheduling link during the call.

Is OpenPhone now called Quo?

Yes. Quo's own announcement, "OpenPhone is now Quo," published September 23, 2025, says "Today, we're rebranding to Quo." The same post says Sona "is moving beyond missed calls to become a true front office partner." Quo's site still labels itself "Quo (formerly OpenPhone)," so if you search for OpenPhone features you will land on quo.com.

What does Sona do on a call?

Quo's Sona product page and help center describe these jobs:

  • Answers calls 24/7. Quo's help center says Sona "answers calls 24/7 when you're unavailable." You place it in your call flow, for example after your team's phones ring with no answer, after a phone menu option or after a business-hours check.
  • Answers common questions. Sona uses the business details and knowledge you give it, with separate greetings and knowledge for business hours and after hours.
  • Takes messages and logs calls. It captures the caller's details, reason for calling and any custom questions you set, then creates a call summary for your team.
  • Transfers calls. Sona can transfer a caller to a teammate, a shared inbox or an outside number. Quo's help center notes that Sona leaves the call once it transfers, and it can't come back if nobody picks up.
  • Texts during the call. Sona can send the caller a text from the number they called, such as a scheduling link. Your number must be registered for business texting (A2P 10DLC or toll-free) for this to work.
  • Creates Jobber requests. With Quo's Jobber integration turned on, Sona can create a Jobber request when a caller asks about new work.
  • Languages. Quo's Sona page lists English, Spanish and French, and says Sona can't switch languages mid-call.

Sona answers inbound calls only; Quo's Sona page says it can't make outbound calls.

Can Sona book appointments?

Not directly onto a calendar, based on Quo's pages. The Sona product page describes Sona texting callers a scheduling link during the call rather than placing the appointment itself, and the help center's list of Sona actions (transfer call, send text, create Jobber request) has no calendar booking action. If you need the AI to put the job on the schedule while the caller is still on the line, check that point in a trial before you rely on it.

How much does Sona cost?

Quo's help center article "Sona pricing" lists five monthly tiers. Credits are charged per call, not per minute: Sona uses 100 credits per call, and calls under 15 seconds don't count.

Sona tierPrice per monthCreditsAbout how many callsOverage per call (if turned on)
Tier 1Free1,00010$1.00
Tier 2$254,00040$0.75
Tier 3$4910,000100$0.65
Tier 4$9925,000250$0.55
Tier 5$19960,000600$0.45

A few rules from the same article:

  • Overages are off by default. Turn them on and Sona keeps answering after your credits run out, billed at your tier's per-call rate.
  • Credits expire at the end of each billing period and don't roll over. Annual plans still get a monthly refresh.
  • Paid Sona tiers need a paid Quo plan (Starter, Business or Scale), billing through Stripe rather than an Apple subscription, and an Admin or Owner on the account.

Sona sits on top of your Quo phone plan. Quo's own pricing guide, published July 30, 2026, lists Starter at $15, Business at $23 and Scale at $35 per user per month, billed annually. Quo's main pricing page couldn't be opened for this article, so check monthly-billing prices there.

How does per-call pricing compare with per-minute pricing?

Sona's per-call model means a 30-second call and a 6-minute call cost the same 100 credits. That is easy to forecast if most of your calls are short questions. Per-minute pricing, which Sharrk uses, charges by talk time, so short calls cost less and long intake calls cost more. Our guide to what an AI receptionist costs walks through both models.

What should you test before turning on an AI receptionist?

Whichever tool you try, run these checks with real calls before you send customers to it:

  1. Call it after hours and ask your three most common questions. Listen for wrong prices or made-up answers.
  2. Ask for a person. Confirm the transfer reaches someone, and find out what happens when nobody answers.
  3. Try to book. See whether the appointment lands on your schedule or the caller just gets a link.
  4. Read the summary. Check that the name, number, address and job type are all captured.
  5. Do the math on your call mix. Count last month's calls and average length, then price them on per-call and per-minute plans.

How does Sharrk handle this?

Sharrk answers calls 24/7, replies to new leads in under 30 seconds and live transfers callers to a person when they need one. It books jobs onto Sharrk's calendar, Calendly or Cal.com, and books into ServiceTitan; Jobber clients come in as leads, along with leads from Angi, Thumbtack, Networx, web forms and webhooks. Strikes run automated follow-up, and Hunts run reactivation campaigns on lists you have consent to contact.

Mako is the AI assistant inside Sharrk. Describe what you want in plain English, such as "answer after-hours calls and book roof inspections," and Mako builds the agent, follow-up and campaigns. You approve each change before it goes live.

Pricing is by credits: an AI voice call uses 150 credits a minute and a phone number uses 10,000 credits a month, so Core's 47,500 monthly credits cover about 250 call minutes with one number. There are no contracts or setup fees. Start on Sharrk Free with no card, or book a demo.
