Can you get a refund for a bad Angi lead? Yes: request a lead credit within 45 days for bad contact info, wrong ZIP, wrong job or duplicates

By Sharrk Team · October 20, 2026

Yes. Angi gives a lead credit (store credit toward future leads, not cash) for leads with invalid contact info, a location outside your ZIP codes, a job you don't do, a duplicate charge, or a charge while your leads were paused, as long as the lead is under 45 days old and you tried to call within 24 hours. The best protection is reaching every lead fast: Sharrk replies to each Angi lead in under 30 seconds, so you find out quickly whether a lead is real and win the good ones.

Below are Angi's own rules, a table of what qualifies, and the exact steps to request a credit in the app or on the web.

Does Angi refund bad leads?

Angi doesn't send cash back for a bad lead. It issues a lead credit: the lead fee goes back on your account as store credit and is applied to future charges. Angi's Lead Credit Guidelines say credits are store credit only and are issued "in its sole discretion," which means Angi can also credit situations that aren't on its list.

Two more details matter:

  • Credits expire. Angi's How to Request a Lead Credit article says credits expire if not used within six months from the date issued.
  • Annual subscriptions are different. The same article notes that if you have an annual subscription, you can report leads, but credits are not offered for those leads.

Which Angi leads qualify for a credit?

Angi's current help article (dated August 14, 2026) lists five reasons. The table pairs each with what to save before you submit.

ReasonEligible for credit?What to document
Invalid contact info (phone out of service or not the homeowner's)YesTime of your call attempt, the error or "wrong person" result, any bounced text
Project location outside your profile's ZIP codesYesThe lead's address or ZIP and a screenshot of your service-area ZIPs
Project type doesn't match your profile's servicesYesThe task on the lead and the services listed on your profile
Duplicate: charged twice for the same homeowner within 45 daysYesBoth lead dates, both charges and the matching name, phone or address
Charged while your lead flow was pausedYesWhen you paused and the time of the charge
Homeowner doesn't answer or return messagesNoNot needed for a credit, but keep your attempt log
Homeowner hired another pro firstNoNot applicable
Homeowner decided not to go aheadNoNot applicable
Homeowner was comparing quotesNoNot applicable
You quoted but didn't win the jobNoNot applicable

Sources: Angi's How to Request a Lead Credit and Lead Credit Guidelines. The Guidelines explain that the "not eligible" cases are already factored into lead pricing.

The older HomeAdvisor Pro help page (How to request lead credits) also lists "competitor testing the system" as a possible reason. Angi's newer article doesn't list it, so treat it as something to ask Angi about rather than a sure thing.

How many days do you have to request an Angi lead credit?

Request it while the lead is less than 45 days old. Angi's Lead Credit Guidelines put it as within 45 days of the charge date. Requests are reviewed by the Angi team within 5 business days, according to How to Request a Lead Credit.

The older HomeAdvisor Pro page (How to request lead credits) gives a different window: at least 24 hours old but less than 30 days old, and it also asks for call tracking and call attempts on more than one day. Angi's current articles use 45 days and don't mention those extra steps. If you want to be safe, submit early and call on more than one day anyway.

What do you need to do before you request a credit?

Angi's conditions, from its two current articles:

  • You tried to call within 24 hours. "You should have attempted to call the homeowner within 24 hours of being sent the lead."
  • No overdue balance. Your account has to be in good standing.
  • The lead is under 45 days old.

The 24-hour call is the one pros miss most often. A fast first call isn't only about winning the job; it's also what keeps your credit eligibility intact. Our guide to Angi lead response time covers why minutes matter.

How do you request a lead credit on Angi, step by step?

These steps come from Angi's How to Request a Lead Credit article.

In the Angi for Pros app

  1. Sign in.
  2. Open the Leads tab and select the lead.
  3. Tap the menu in the top right and choose Request Credit.
  4. Review the requirements and tap Continue.
  5. Pick a reason, add details if needed, and tap Continue.

In a web browser

  1. Sign in to your business account.
  2. Open the Leads tab and choose the lead.
  3. Select Request lead credit.
  4. Click Continue on the confirmation pop-up.
  5. Choose a reason and click Continue.

In the details box, be specific: "Called 9:42 AM on the day the lead arrived, number disconnected" is stronger than "bad lead." If you get stuck, Angi lists Customer Care at (877) 947-3639 and live chat on the same help page.

How do you cut down on bad Angi leads in the first place?

Credits help, but you only get your fee back for clear errors. Most of your return comes from working every real lead quickly and keeping your profile tight:

  • Keep your ZIP codes and services current so leads match the work you want. Out-of-area and wrong-task leads are easier to avoid than to dispute.
  • Pause leads properly when you're full, and check that charges stop.
  • Call fast and follow up. Homeowners who don't answer aren't creditable, so persistence matters. See how many times to follow up with a lead.
  • Know your cost per lead so you can judge which credits are worth the time. Our breakdown of Angi lead costs has the numbers.

How does Sharrk handle Angi leads?

Angi leads come straight into Sharrk. Within 30 seconds of a new lead, Sharrk reaches out by text and/or an AI phone call, qualifies the homeowner, and books the job onto Sharrk's calendar, Calendly or Cal.com, or into ServiceTitan. If the homeowner wants a person, Sharrk can live transfer the call to you or your team. It also answers your calls 24/7, so a homeowner calling back at 9 PM still reaches you.

When a lead doesn't respond, Strikes keep going for you: automated follow-up calls, texts, emails and voicemail drops that stop as soon as the lead replies or books. Every touch is logged on the lead record, so if a number turns out to be disconnected, you already have the time of your first call attempt and the result, ready to type into Angi's credit form. (Texting requires approved carrier registration.)

Mako, the AI assistant inside Sharrk, sets all of this up from plain English. Tell Mako something like "When an Angi lead comes in, call them right away, text if they don't pick up, and try again for three days," and it builds the agent and the Strike, shows you exactly what will change, and waits for your OK before applying anything. You can adjust timing, wording or booking rules the same way.

You can try it free: start on Sharrk Free with 2,500 one-time credits to build and test with Mako, no card needed. Paid plans start at Core, $99/month (see pricing). Or book a demo and we'll walk through your Angi setup with you.

Frequently asked questions

Can you get a refund for a bad Angi lead?

Yes, as a lead credit rather than cash. Angi credits the lead fee to your account for future charges when the lead has invalid contact info, is outside your ZIP codes, doesn't match your services, is a duplicate, or was charged while your leads were paused.

How long do you have to request an Angi lead credit?

The lead must be less than 45 days old. Angi's Lead Credit Guidelines say to request it within 45 days of the charge date, and requests are reviewed within 5 business days.

Can I get a credit if the homeowner never answers?

No. Angi lists a homeowner who doesn't answer or return messages as not eligible, along with homeowners who hired someone else, changed their mind or were comparing quotes.

Do Angi lead credits expire?

Yes. Angi says credits expire if not used within six months from the date issued.

Why was my Angi credit request denied?

Most often because a condition wasn't met: the lead was 45 days old or more, you didn't try to call within 24 hours, your account had an overdue balance, the reason isn't on Angi's list, or you're on an annual subscription, which Angi doesn't offer credits for.

How can Sharrk help with Angi leads?

Sharrk replies to every Angi lead in under 30 seconds by text and/or AI call and logs each touch on the lead record. That gets you to real homeowners first and gives you a timestamped record of your call attempts if you need to request a credit.
