How to reactivate old roofing leads before the next storm, and let Sharrk's Hunts do the work
By Sharrk Team · October 14, 2026
The fastest way to reactivate old roofing leads is Sharrk's Hunts: load your unsigned estimates and old storm leads, and Sharrk reaches out by AI call, text and email inside the calling windows you set, with opt-outs, quiet hours and DNC list checks built in. Mako, Sharrk's AI assistant, builds the whole campaign from one sentence, shows you every step and waits for your OK.
Every roofing company has a pile of leads that went quiet: estimates that never signed, inspections that didn't turn into a job, storm leads from two seasons ago, past customers whose roofs are getting older. These people already raised their hand for a roof once. Reaching back out to them costs a fraction of buying new leads, and the best time to do it is right before, or right after, the next storm.
How Sharrk reactivates old roofing leads
Sharrk's Hunts are built for exactly this:
- Pick the list. Your past estimates, inspections and customers, all in Sharrk's CRM.
- Set the windows. Choose the days and hours Sharrk may reach out, and the steps, such as an AI call, then a text, then an email.
- Sharrk works the list. Each homeowner hears from you only inside your windows, with opt-out handling, quiet hours and DNC list checks built in.
- Ready homeowners come straight back to you. Anyone ready to move is booked for an inspection on your calendar or handed straight back to your team.
- Replies get answered right away. When old leads call or text back, your Sharrk AI voice and text agents answer, even at night.
Here's an illustrative example of an old lead, woken up:
Sharrk: Hi Mike, it's Ava with Desert Peak Roofing. You asked about a new roof last spring. Is that still on your list? Homeowner: Actually, yes. We had a couple of leaks this summer. Sharrk: Sorry to hear that. I can have an inspector out Thursday at 10 am to take a look. Does that work? Homeowner: Thursday works.
Booked: Thursday at 10 AM, roof inspection, added to your pipeline.

Consent comes first, and Sharrk builds that in
To protect you and your leads, AI outbound calling, voicemail drops and lead scraping in Sharrk unlock after you sign a consent attestation and your texting registration is approved. Mako walks you through both. You're responsible for having consent to contact your list, which is why step 2 below matters.
Sharrk has helped clients bring in six figures in revenue, including a single $30,000+ deal. See how lead reactivation with Sharrk works, then use the steps below to get your list ready.
Step 1: Pull the list
Export everyone you've quoted or inspected who didn't sign, plus past customers. You'll find them in your CRM, in ServiceTitan or Jobber, in old spreadsheets and in your estimating software. For each person, keep:
- Name, phone, email and the property address
- What you quoted (repair, replacement, insurance job) and when
- Why it didn't close, if you know
- Where the lead came from and what permission you have to contact them
Remove anyone who asked not to be contacted, and anyone you can't tie to a real conversation with your company. Then bring the list into Sharrk.
Step 2: Check consent before you call or text
This step matters more than the message. US rules on calls and texts are strict, and AI calling is covered by them:
- In February 2024 the FCC ruled that calls using AI-generated voices count as "artificial or prerecorded voice" calls under the Telephone Consumer Protection Act (TCPA), so they need the person's prior consent (summary from Cooley).
- Marketing calls and texts generally need prior express written consent, and telemarketing calls are limited to between 8 am and 9 pm in the recipient's local time.
- People who opt out ("stop", "don't call me") must be removed right away.
In practice: only contact people who gave you permission, such as on a form or estimate that included consent language, keep a record of it, and honor opt-outs. If you're unsure about part of your list, start with email, which has different rules, or talk to a lawyer. This isn't legal advice. For the federal and state rules in more detail, see is it legal to call leads with an AI voice.
Step 3: Split the list by why it didn't close
One message for everyone gets ignored. A few groups, each with its own message, go a long way:
| Group | What they need to hear |
|---|---|
| Price | Financing, a repair option, or what's changed since the quote |
| Timing ("not this year") | A check-in now that it's a new season |
| Insurance denied or stalled | A re-inspection after a new storm, or help with the claim |
| No response after the estimate | A short, direct "still thinking about it?" |
| Past customers | A free check-up after a storm in their area |
Step 4: Write a first message that sounds like a person
Short, specific and easy to answer. Mention the address or the job so they know it's real. For example:
Hi Dana, it's Mike from [Your Company]. We looked at your roof on Maple St last spring. With the hail Tuesday, want us to take a free look and make sure nothing new got damaged?
Hi Chris, [Your Company] here. You got a replacement quote from us last year. We have openings next week if you're still thinking about it. Want me to hold one?
Ask one question. Don't send a paragraph, and don't lead with a discount. When Mako builds your Hunt, tell it the wording you want and review every step before you approve.
Step 5: Pick the channels and the timing
- Text first. It's the easiest to reply to.
- Then a call, inside your calling hours. A live voice catches people who don't text back.
- Then email, with photos of past jobs in their neighborhood or a link to book.
- Space it out. Three or four touches over two weeks is plenty. Stop as soon as someone replies or opts out.
A Hunt runs these steps for you inside the windows you set, and opt-outs are honored automatically.
Storms are the trigger. After hail or high wind in an area, homeowners there are already thinking about their roof. Run your Hunt for those zip codes first.
Step 6: Get the hot replies booked fast
A reactivation campaign is only as good as how fast you answer the replies. Someone who texts back "yes, can you come Thursday?" should be booked within minutes, not tomorrow. Sharrk's AI text and voice agents answer those replies right away, day or night, and book the inspection on your calendar or hand the homeowner straight to your team.
Step 7: Measure what matters
Track replies, booked inspections and signed jobs for each group, plus opt-outs. If one group opts out a lot, change the message or stop contacting it. If one group books well, give it more attention before the next storm. Sharrk's CRM pipeline keeps every lead's progress in one place.

Frequently asked questions
How do you reactivate old roofing leads?
With Sharrk's Hunts. Pull the estimates and inspections that didn't sign, confirm you have permission to contact them and split them by why they didn't close. Sharrk then reaches out by AI call, text and email inside your calling windows and books the inspection or hands ready homeowners back to you. Mako builds the campaign from one sentence.
Is it legal to text or call old leads?
Only with the right consent. Marketing calls and texts generally need prior express written consent, AI-voice calls count as artificial-voice calls under the TCPA, and opt-outs must be honored. In Sharrk, AI outbound calling unlocks only after you sign a consent attestation and your texting registration is approved. This isn't legal advice; check your forms and talk to a lawyer if you're unsure.
When is the best time to reach out to old roofing leads?
Right after hail or high wind in their area, when homeowners are already thinking about their roof, and inside normal calling hours. Sharrk's Hunts only reach out inside the calling windows you set.
How many times should I follow up?
Three or four touches over about two weeks is plenty. Stop as soon as someone replies or opts out; Sharrk honors opt-outs automatically.
Can Sharrk run the reactivation for me?
Yes. Sharrk's Hunts reach out to your list by AI call, text and email inside the hours you set, with opt-out handling, quiet hours and DNC list checks built in, and book the inspection or hand anyone ready back to your team. Tell Mako what you want and it builds the Hunt, shows every step and waits for your OK.
