How Long Does 10DLC Approval Take? A Few Days to About 3 Weeks

By Sharrk Team · October 26, 2026

10DLC approval usually takes anywhere from a few days to about 3 weeks: brand registration is often approved within minutes, and campaign review takes the longest. Sharrk helps you get through that wait faster and on the first try: Mako, Sharrk's AI assistant, drafts and audits your A2P 10DLC registration, checks your website, privacy and terms pages live, and your Strikes simply wait, without failing, until texting is approved.

Timelines vary by provider and by how busy reviewers are. As of October 2026, Twilio's own docs say campaign reviews are taking 10 to 15 days, while Bandwidth says to expect 3 to 5 business days for the first review. This post covers each step, how long each takes, and what causes delays. For what registration costs, see our 10DLC registration cost breakdown.

How long does each 10DLC step take?

Registration happens in a fixed order. Here is what the providers themselves say about each step.

StepWhat happensTypical time (per source)
Customer profile (Twilio direct customers)Twilio verifies your business account"72 hours or more" (Twilio)
Brand registrationThe Campaign Registry (TCR) checks your business identity"typically within a few minutes" (Twilio)
Manual brand review (only if needed)A person reviews a brand the automated check could not verify"seven business days or more" (Twilio)
Campaign vettingReviewers check your use case, opt-in, sample messages and website3 to 5 business days for the first review (Bandwidth); 10 to 15 days, or "two to three weeks" (Twilio)
Number assignmentYour numbers are registered to the approved campaign across carriersT-Mobile "minutes to a few days"; AT&T and Verizon updates typically "less than a few minutes" after that (Bandwidth)

Campaign vetting is the bottleneck. Twilio's quickstart (updated September 2026) says "campaign reviews take 10–15 days" because of more submissions, and Bandwidth's help center (August 14, 2026) says "3-5 business days for the initial review of a campaign, but it could be longer." If TCR sends you a brand verification request, Twilio says to respond within 24 hours.

The real answer for most small businesses: plan for 1 to 3 weeks from first submission to sending texts, and longer if a rejection forces you to resubmit.

Why do 10DLC campaigns get rejected?

A rejection is the most common reason approval drags past three weeks, because you have to fix and resubmit, and your campaign goes back into review. Twilio publishes the reasons it sees, with error codes. The ones that trip up local businesses most:

Twilio errorWhat it means (Twilio's words)
30896 Opt-in"Opt-in message workflow is not sufficient for campaign type"
30909 Call to action"Call to Action with the campaign could not be verified."
30908 Privacy policy"A compliant privacy policy was not provided in the Message Flow or could not be located on the website."
30893 Sample messages"Sample messages are either not provided, unclear, or content does not match the campaign use case."
30907 Website"Website URL does not match the campaign description or Brand information."
30887 Opt-out"the workflow is unclear, missing opt-out keywords or opt-message"
30890 Help message"HELP message reply does not contain brand name, phone number, or email address."
30892 Links"Public URL shorteners are not accepted."

Twilio has also added more specific opt-in codes, including "Consent language is missing required disclosures" (30924) and "Opt-in form is missing a checkbox, or the checkbox is pre-selected" (30925).

Privacy and terms pages now matter even more. Twilio announced on April 6, 2026 that starting June 30, 2026, new campaigns registered through its API need both a privacy policy URL and a terms and conditions URL, and requests missing either "will be rejected during review." Twilio says both "must be valid, publicly accessible URLs."

How do you get 10DLC approved on the first try?

Run through this checklist before you press Submit. Each item maps to a rejection reason above.

  1. Make your business details match everywhere. Legal name, address and EIN should match your tax records, and your website should clearly be the same business.
  2. Show where people opt in. Reviewers must be able to see your opt-in. Describe it in the campaign's message flow and link to it: a web form, a booking page, or the words your staff say on the phone.
  3. Use an unchecked consent checkbox with full disclosures. Name your business, say what kind of texts people will get, how often, that message and data rates may apply, and how to opt out (Reply STOP) and get help (Reply HELP).
  4. Publish a privacy policy and terms page. Both should be public, live, and linked from your site. Twilio flags privacy policies that say opt-in data is shared with third parties for marketing (error 30932).
  5. Write sample messages that match your use case. If your campaign says "appointment reminders and lead follow-up," your samples should be exactly that. Include your business name and opt-out language, and skip public link shorteners.
  6. Set up STOP and HELP replies. Your HELP reply should include your business name and a phone number or email.
  7. Describe the campaign in plain detail. Who you text, why, and how they signed up. A one-line description invites error 30886.

Here is a sample message that fits a home-service lead follow-up campaign (business and names are samples):

Hi Dana, this is Sam with Clearwater Plumbing (sample). Thanks for your water heater request. We can come out Tuesday 10am-12pm or Wednesday 1-3pm. Which works? Questions? Call (555) 010-0142. Reply STOP to opt out.

And sample opt-in checkbox text (sample, adjust to your business):

[ ] I agree to receive appointment and service texts from Clearwater Plumbing at the number provided. Message frequency varies. Message and data rates may apply. Reply STOP to opt out, HELP for help. See our Privacy Policy and Terms.

What should you do while you wait for 10DLC approval?

Use the wait to build: calls and emails do not depend on 10DLC. Check your registration status every day or two, and if you see a rejection, fix the exact item the error names and resubmit right away. Twilio's vetting FAQ says that if vetting is still in progress after 10 days, you can reach out to its support team.

If you plan to call leads with an AI voice too, read our guide on AI voice calls and TCPA consent, since good consent language helps with both.

How does Sharrk help you get 10DLC approved?

Texting from Sharrk needs an approved A2P 10DLC registration, and Sharrk builds that process into the app. A step-by-step wizard walks you through business, contact, campaign and review. Sharrk gives you free hosted opt-in, privacy and terms pages, runs a live audit of your website, privacy page, terms page and opt-in before you submit, checks your status every hour and emails you updates, and lets you fix and resubmit if anything comes back. Carrier fees are a one-time $5 brand registration and $20 campaign vetting, plus a small monthly campaign fee.

Mako, Sharrk's AI assistant, is your 10DLC expert. Tell Mako "register my plumbing business for texting," and it drafts the brand and campaign, writes sample messages that match your use case, and audits your live website, privacy and terms pages for the problems reviewers reject. If a campaign comes back with "opt-in not verifiable," ask Mako to fix it. Mako never submits for you: every change shows on an Apply card, it waits for your OK, and you press Submit yourself.

While approval is pending, nothing breaks. Sharrk's Strikes, the automatic follow-up sequences that mix AI calls, texts, emails and ringless voicemail, wait instead of failing when texting approval is not in yet, so text steps send once you are approved. Your AI voice agents answer every call 24/7 and reply to new leads in under 30 seconds by call or email in the meantime. When texting goes live, every text gets "Reply STOP to stop or HELP for help." added automatically.

You can build and test everything on Sharrk Free with 2,500 one-time credits and no card, then go live on Core at $99 a month. Prefer a walkthrough? Schedule a demo. Planning to text old leads once you are approved? See lead reactivation with Sharrk.

Campaigns are often rejected over missing opt-out wording, so check our guide to SMS opt-out language before you submit.

Why is my 10DLC campaign taking so long?

Campaign vetting is the slowest step and review queues vary. Twilio's quickstart says reviews currently take 10 to 15 days due to more submissions, and its vetting FAQ says you can contact Twilio Support if vetting is still in progress after 10 days.

Do I need a privacy policy and terms page for 10DLC?

Yes. Twilio says that starting June 30, 2026, new campaigns registered through its API must include a privacy policy URL and a terms and conditions URL, both publicly accessible, or they will be rejected during review.
